Welcome to the May edition of Village Bulletin!

This month’s update is packed with news on recent wins, impactful community initiatives and a look at what’s on the horizon.

Let’s dive in!

Kevin Lamb nominated for Digital Publishing Award 🏆

Another month, another major award nomination for one of our Village Media journalists.

Kevin Lamb, a reporter/photographer for BarrieToday, is nominated for Best News Coverage (Community Publication) at the 10th annual Digital Publishing Awards for a series of articles that put a face on the homelessness crisis in his community.

Kevin’s powerful stories focused on one person in particular: a 75-year-old local known as ‘Rick the Mayor.’

BarrieToday editor Raymond Bowe says Kevin has a special way of getting people to open up.

"Kevin is a quiet guy with keen listening skills, which is critical while interviewing people, especially when trying to get them to speak openly about their situation, often in less-than-ideal circumstances," Bowe said. "He cares, and that comes through in his reporting."

The winners will be announced on Friday, June 13 at a live event in Toronto.

Congratulations and good luck, Kevin! 👏

Our Village Media Spring Cares Match Initiative: Sheltering Our Communities was a huge success, raising over $31,500 for shelters with the help of our readers and local business partners.

The campaign, designed to multiply community impact through matched donations, resulted in tens of thousands of dollars and dozens of care packages delivered to local shelters helping those who need it most.

A big shout out to everyone who worked so hard on producing such impressive results for our community shelters 🫶
